Your Gut Part III: What Negatively Affects the Microbiome?

1. Environmental toxins:

  • Pesticides around the home
  • Household cleaning products
  • Cosmetics (The average American woman swallows 10 pounds of lipstick in her lifetime) Do you know the ingredients in your lipstick?
  • Hair and nail care (formaldehyde is the most common ingredient)
  • Perfumes, scents and air fresheners (they are all endocrine disruptor‘s )
  • Deodorant (aluminum)
  • These are huge and we absorb them through our skin!
  • Gut-busting drugs (antibiotics)
  • Antibiotics can be a necessary evil. They save lives no doubt about it. The point here is to use them only when absolutely necessary (major bacterial infection that is hospital worthy).
  • The way I like live my life and guide my patients is “nature first drugs last!”

2. GMO (Genetically modified organism) foods!

This is some seriously scary stuff folks!

The major issue with GMO crops is that they are sprayed with Glyphosate (Round up). Round up is patented as an antibiotic and has also been shown to block the synthesis of certain key amino acids at the root level of the plant. It’s a nasty, deadly poison that millions of people are working to get banned from OUR food supply but we’re not there yet.

This means you must elect to avoid it in your diet. Here is a list of typical crops that tend to be GMO:
Alfalfa, canola, corn, cotton, papaya, soy, Sugar Beach, yellow summer squash, animal products (MEAT), potato’s

3. Processed foods
4. Refined carbs
5. Non-filtered water
6. Unclean air
